Young Driver Safety

Passing the driving test allows the driver a new, independent lifestyle. However, along with the new independence comes a lot of responsibility.

For the first 2 years, new drivers are on a probationary period. If they get 6 points on their licence within this time period, they will lose their licence and will only be able to get it back by retaking the test. (see below for more info).

New drivers have more accidents. New motorists are most at risk of having an accident in the first 2 years after they pass their test. 1 in 5 newly qualified drivers will have some sort of crash within the first year of driving.

How do you get points on your licence?

The following is how you get points on your license:

Offence Points
Speeding 3-6
Traffic light offence 3
Careless and inconsiderate driving 3-9
Driving without insurance 6-8
Failing to stop after an accident OR failing to report an accident 5-10
Failing to indentify the driver of a vehicle 3
Driving when disqualified 6
Driving other than in arrordance with a licence 3-6
Using a hand-held phone 3

Driving with no MOT can get you a £1000 fine and it invalidates your insurance.
